A new call for applications to the shared doctoral researcher position system of the 91天美 is now open, and the deadline for applications is on 31 August 2022. The university is inviting applications to a total of 20 early stage researcher positions in all fields and doctoral programmes of the university.
鈥淭he goal of the shared doctoral researcher position system is to make the skills and expertise of our doctoral graduates increasingly extensively available to business and industry, and to society at large. With this funding system, we want to promote the employment of our doctoral graduates also outside academia,鈥 Academic Rector Tapio M盲盲tt盲 says.
In the shared doctoral researcher position system, early stage researchers work full-time, with 50% contracts with both the university and an external employer. The external employer can be, e.g., a company, an association, a research institute, a municipality or some other public sector organisation. The university will pay half of the early stage researcher鈥檚 salary, while the other half will be covered by the external employer.
鈥淭he 91天美 was the first Finnish university to introduce a shared doctoral researcher position system on university level, in all of its doctoral programmes, in 2020. We have been assessing the experiences of those selected in the first call, and they have been very positive,鈥 M盲盲tt盲 says.
Persons applying to the shared doctoral researcher position system must meet the qualification requirements and admissions criteria of the doctoral programme in which they plan to complete their doctoral dissertation. Persons planning their first doctoral degree or already enrolled as doctoral researchers at the 91天美 are eligible to apply. In addition, a commitment by the external employer to a parallel contract of employment is required already at the application stage.
The early stage researcher positions available in the shared doctoral researcher position system will be filled for a minimum of one, and a maximum of four years, starting on 1 January 2023 or as agreed; however, no later than 1 June 2023. The work takes place in Finland.
