The Karelian Institute at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies invites applications for two Doctoral Researcher positions in border studies (Karelia, Karelianness, and Finnish-Russian border and border area) on Joensuu campus. Border Studies is part of the Doctoral Programme of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies.
The Karelian Institute is a multidisciplinary institute and research community of about 50 scholars focusing on contemporary challenges related to borders, regions and cultures. The research perspectives emerge from and are supported by the Institute鈥檚 three intertwined priority areas: Borders and Russia, Ethnicity and culture, and Regional and rural studies. The positions are also associated with the activities of the university鈥檚 Borders, Mobilities and Cultural Encounters (BOMOCULT) Research Community.
In accordance with the Onnenm盲ki Foundation鈥檚 endowment, the selected candidates鈥 research focuses on Karelia, Karelianness, or the Finnish-Russian border and border area. The successful candidate may investigate different aspects of social, economic, regional, political or cultural processes, or processes of border-making and border-transcending, in this geographic location.
