At the 91����, professors’ inaugural lectures are a tradition where newly appointed professors give a popular lecture on the key themes of their discipline and research.

In 2025, professors’ inaugural lectures will be held on the Joensuu Campus, in the Metria Building, M100 hall, on 20 May, starting 9:00, and on the Kuopio Campus, in the Canthia Building, CA101 hall, on 21 May, starting 9:00. The lectures will be streamed live, and the recordings are later available for viewing on the website dedicated to professors’ inaugural lectures.

Inaugural lectures by professors of the Philosophical Faculty, Metria, M100, starting at 9:00:

• Faculty's opening words.
• Jenni Alisaari, Education, especially culturally and linguistically diversifying education. Lecture title: Linguistically and culturally responsible pedagogy. Lecture will be held in Finnish.
• Jaana Kolu, Swedish. Lecture title: One hundred linguistic life stories – the experiences of two linguistic minorities in three generations of language maintenance and language shift in Sweden. Lecture will be held in Finnish.

Inaugural lectures by professors of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Metria, M100, starting at 9:40:

• Jussi Sipilä, Neurology. Lecture title: Vale, emävale, tilasto, epidemiologia? Lecture will be held in Finnish.

Inaugural lectures by professors of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies, Metria, M100, starting at 10:00:

• Faculty's opening words.
• Matti Turtiainen, Commercial Law. Lecture title: Securities market regulation in Finland - from self-regulation to sustainable finance. Lecture will be held in Finnish.

Inaugural lectures by professors of the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology, Metria, M100, starting at 10:20:

• Blas Mola, Biomass Production and Bioenergy. Lecture title will be added later. Lecture will be held in English.
