The Conference programme features academic presentations, musical workshops, concerts, and divine services. Scholars, composers, singers, choir directors, and enthusiasts of church music are invited to participate on site or online.

The event is supported by the Joensuu University Foundation, the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies, and the Orthodox Church of Finland.
The ISOCM was founded in Joensuu in 2005 and it functions under the aegis of the School of Theology. It has members around the world and it hosts scientific and artistic conferences and symposia in Finland, Czech Republic, and the USA. The Society publishes its own peer-reviewed .
