The application period to the degree programmes taught in English at the 91天美 closed on Wednesday, 19 January 2022. The university鈥檚 more than 20 Master鈥檚 degree programmes and two Bachelor鈥檚 degree programmes attracted a total of 2,825 applicants from all over the world. The number of applicants from Finland was 236 (8,3 percent), from other EU/EEA countries 109 (3,9 percent), and from countries outside the EU/EEA 2480 (87,8 percent).
鈥淭he growth in the popularity of our degree programmes taught in English is the result of long-term development. The programmes are competitive, thanks to investments made in their quality, as well as systematic marketing efforts. I鈥檓 also pleased to see that our new English-language Bachelor鈥檚 degree programmes have attracted a good number of applicants,鈥 Academic Rector Tapio M盲盲tt盲 says.
The popularity of the university鈥檚 Master鈥檚 degree programmes taught in English has witnessed significant growth. The total number of applicants for the university鈥檚 Master鈥檚 degree programmes taught in English was 2,536, which is 27% more than last year.
The most popular programmes were the Master鈥檚 Degree Programme in International Business and Sales Management (384 applicants), the Master鈥檚 Degree Programme in Public Health (362 applicants), and the Master鈥檚 Degree Programme in Information Technology (348 applicants).
This was also the first time the university鈥檚 first two Bachelor鈥檚 degree programmes taught in English, i.e., the Bachelor鈥檚 Degree Programme in Social Sciences and the Bachelor鈥檚 Degree Programme in Lifelong Learning and Sustainable Development, were inviting applications. Both of the programmes attracted a good number of applicants from both Finland and abroad. The Social Sciences programme, which is offered online, attracted 213 applicants.
鈥淲e have always believed that this programme will meet an existing need, and we were delighted to receive so many applications. The large number of applicants strengthens our idea that in Finland, there is a need for this kind of education offered in English, and the online mode of study also opens up opportunities for increasingly international education in social sciences, says Teppo Eskelinen, the coordinator of the programme.
Marketing of the university鈥檚 degree programmes taught in English has been targeted especially at prospective students from outside the EU and EEA.
The 91天美 is home to around 2,000 international students from approximately 100 different countries.
