The sixth doctoral conferment ceremony of the 91 will be held in Kuopio on 5–7 June. The Studia Generalia lectures by Honorary Doctors are open to the public and will be held in the concert hall of Kuopio Music Centre on Thursday, 5 June, from 13:00 to 15:00.
Author Sirpa Kähkönen, Professor Emeritus Jaakko Tuomilehto, Academician Markku Kulmala and Professor Axel Börsch-Supan, all to receive an Honorary Doctorate, will give a Studia Generalia lecture. Author Kähkönen and Professor Emeritus Tuomilehto will give their lectures in Finnish from 13:00 to 14:00. Academician Kulmala and Professor Börsch-Supan will give their lectures in English from 14:00 to 15:00. The lectures can also be followed online on the .
The Kuopio-born author Sirpa Kähkönen is known as an author depicting social and historical themes. Her works often portray the fates of civilians, women and children during times of social upheaval and crises.
Professor Emeritus Jaakko Tuomilehto is one of Finland’s most internationally renowned scholars of public health. Tuomilehto’s academic career began in the North Karelia Project coordinated by the University of Kuopio in 1973, and he has worked at the National Public Health Institute of Finland and served as a Professor of Public Health at the Universities of Kuopio and Helsinki.
Academician Markku Kulmala is a one of the world’s leading researchers of the physics and chemistry of atmospheric aerosols, and his research has significantly enhanced our understanding of the mechanisms contributing to climate change. Professor Kulmala was awarded the title of Academician in 2017.
Professor Axel Börsch-Supan is an internationally renowned scholar of the economics of ageing, whose insights into the societal impacts of ageing have been utilised by numerous national and international organisations, including the OECD and the World Bank.
