Scholars of climate law at the 91���� are participating in NDC ASPECTS, an extensive, international project seeking to provide research-based knowledge to support the achievement of the goals of the Paris Agreement, and to promote increasingly ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

In 2020, the university achieved a good operational and financial result. The coronavirus pandemic and the emergency conditions had an impact on the university’s activities, but the key operational objectives were achieved well. 

The aim of MSc  Janne Koivukoski's dissertation was to explore how the different radiation events, especially the Chernobyl accident, have affected the development of the radiation monitoring system while using technological advancements. Special focus was put on the measuring and data handling technology used and on the development of the monitoring station network.

The coronavirus pandemic has increased general interest in how viruses enter the brain, and what their effects on the brain are. There are receptors on the surface of some brain cells which allow the coronavirus to penetrate the cell.

The 91���� has received EU funding to recruit 14 doctoral students into a four-year multidisciplinary Neuro-Innovation PhD programme, which will be implemented on the Kuopio campus.

Maiju Karjalainen graduated from UEF's and Toyohashi University of Technology’s (TUT) joint Master’s degree programme last autumn. The double degree included studies and an opportunity to do an internship in Japan.

Professor of Intellectual Capital Management Anu Puusa from the 91����’s Business School has been invited to give a TED Talk.

Coordinated by the 91����, the interdisciplinary and international PEICAS project is currently examining how children with autism spectrum disorder interact with others in inclusive classrooms.
